About Me
My name is Amber Roberts! Founder, owner, and lead dyer of Red River Fiber Studio! I'm a military wife, a mom to 2 beautiful daughters, and a friend who fell in love with yarn and wanted to share it as far and wide as possible.
Where It All Started
I learned to crochet in 2003 in middle school when my stepmom taught me two basic stitches and gave me a book to teach myself with and a year later I taught myself to knit. I bounced back and forth around various hobbies but always circled back around to crochet and knitting.
In 2015, I discovered hand dyed yarn while my husband was stationed in North Carolina and the early, difficult days of life as a stay at home mom with a newborn ran together. Previously, my only yarns were whatever I could find at Walmart or Joann's and it was always acrylic. When I discovered hand dyed yarns made from merino, BFL, silk, alpaca, and more it was love at first squish! It amazed me the color and variety that could be found in the Local Yarn Shop. That lead to me discovering even more indie dyers online and following them as they grew. About 2021, while we were stationed in Hawaii and it became extremely difficult to get yarns I loved, I started wishing I could just dye my own so I could get what I wanted. Finally, in 2023 I got books on dying. I dove into my first book and learned every science related part of the process I could and how the dye worked with the fiber. I knew after dying my first skein I had to share what I was planning on creating. I asked my husband his opinion on creating a shop and being the wonderful, supportive man he is, he promptly encouraged me to do it and to "go big" and helped me as I founded Red River Fiber Studio.
